Remembering the Propitiation of the Cross

Propitiation: A sacrifice that righteously satisfies God’s wrath and changes His outlook towards us from wrath to favor

3 areas of the Christian’s life and living affected by propitiation:

Salvation
Romans 3:21—25; Hebrews 2:17; Leviticus 4:1—4; Genesis 2:16-17; Romans 5:12; 3:23; 6:23; 5:8; 10:9—10; 3:24-25

Fellowship
1 John 2:1—2; 1:5—10

God has a Plan A & Plan B for those who have been saved

  • Plan A — don’t sin anymore. You have been cleansed from sin, don’t return to it.
    • Ephesians 2:1-2; 4:22—24; 5:7—10
  • Plan B — IF sin happens, we have an advocate who stands ready to help when we do. 1 John 2:1-2; 1 John 1:9; Colossians 3:8—9; Colossians 3:10; Ephesians 4:23—24; 5:15—16

Love

1 John 4:7-11; Matthew 22:36-40; Deuteronomy 6:5; Leviticus 19:18; John 13:34-35; John 15:12-13;

Taking It Home:

  1. Have you entered into a saving relationship by faith in the Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and what He did for you on the Cross?
  • If you have not believed in the work of Jesus for your salvation, now would be a good time. Romans 10:9-10
  1. How is your fellowship with God?
  • Are you keeping away from sinning? 1 John 2:1
  • When you do sin, are you keeping short accounts with Him through confession of sin understanding that we have an Advocate with the Father Jesus Christ who is the propitiation for our sin? 1 John 1:9; 2:1-2
  1. How is the love of Christ being seen in your life?
  • How is the self-sacrificial love of Christ seen in your life?
